Rajab Reminder

Rajab Reminder!

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا في رَجَبٍ وَ شَعْبَانَ وَ بَلِّغْنا رَمَضَانَ

Allahumma barik lana fi Rajabin wa Sha`ban wa ballighna Ramadan

“O Allah, bless us in Rajab and Sha`ban and enable us to reach Ramadan!”

We have entered the sacred month of Rajab that brings with it hope for our forgiveness, receiving blessings and anticipating the coming Ramadan.  It is commonly narrated Abu Bakr b. al-Warraq al-Balkhi said: “Rajab is the month to sow the seeds; Sha’ban is the month to irrigate the crop; and Ramadan is the month to reap the harvest.”  Now is the time to set our focus for Ramadan, conduct spiritual spring cleaning and look for the opportunities to maximize from this sacred time, especially to fast and give in charity.  Remember all good deeds are multiplied during the sacred months.  Take advantage of these days.

A reminder that we still have the opportunity for donations received this semester to be matched 50%.  It is important that we reach our goal before summer so that we can appropriately prepare our budget for the coming academic year.  We have opportunities for growth this year, but we need your full support to make it happen.

Announcing New Alumni Donor Clubs!

To better recognize the commitment of our supporters who are making the establishment of a Muslim Life Program and Muslim Chaplain at Penn a reality, we are creating donor clubs.  Each of these clubs is the named for a characteristic or our Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, which we aspire to emulate within our lives.  Email Samir Malik atsamirmm@alumni.upenn.edu with your multi-year pledge to be included in any of the circles below.

Sadiqun

The Sadiqun, reminds us of Abu Bakr as-Sadiq, may Allah be pleased with him, who was always recognized for his sincerity and devotion to Allah and his Messenger, peace be upon him.  From the same Arabic root, we have the word for friends.  The generosity of Abu Bakr is legendary as was his friendship to the Prophet, peace be upon him. The Prophet Muhammad was also called Sadiq (Truthful), peace be upon him.

Karimun

The Circle of Noble Supporters

$5,000 or more annual commitment

Karimun are those who excel in their generosity.  Allah is al-Karim, who gives abundantly and beyond consideration of what is deserved. The Arabic word carries with it both the meanings of generosity and nobility.  The Prophet Muhammad was also called Karim (Generous), peace be upon him.

Ansar

The Circle of Reliable Patrons

“O ye who believe! be ye helpers of Allah: as said Isa the son of Mary to the Disciples ‘Who will be my helpers to (the work of) Allah?’ Said the Disciples ‘We are Allah's helpers!” (61:14)

The Ansar were the disciples of Isa and they were the Sahabah in Medina who took in the Prophet, peace be upon him, and the followers who migrated from Mecca.  They are the group of people who supported generously the prophetic mission, who were the foundation of community and paragons of brotherhood.  The Prophet Muhammad was also called Nasir (Helper), peace be upon him.
